Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition 2013

The Yarra Valley Arts/Yering Station Sculpture Exhibition and Awards is held in the beautiful gardens of Yering Station, a premier winery in the Yarra Valley region of Victoria.

The exhibition is also in its 13th year and showcases contemporary Australian sculptures from established and emerging artists.

This is the first time both Chris and I have participated in this exhibition, which is on from October 27-December 8.

Chris is pulling out the big guns for this one, showcasing Amplitudes Sculpture, a 3m tall by 3m wide sculpture made from corten steel with a natural rusted finish and a polished stainless steel wedge at the top right or left, depending on your view.

This is my favorite sculpture by Chris and is one of those pieces that truly capture the imagination – some say it looks like a perfect pencil shaving, while others say it looks like a sea creature.

It is actually inspired by the ocean and represents a measure of change over a single period – in this instance the Amplitude is a continuous wave where the relationship from peak to peak is fixed and known.

My entry is the Ring – a representation of a precious object, a symbol, a gift, a bequest or a treasure.

With inspiration drawn from a pressure-set diamond ring, the Ring sculpture has a perfect fitting connection point but is without its gem. Instead, the gem is actually replaced by the connection point.

Not traditionally round in shape, the Ring sculpture is oval and left open at the connection point as a representation of the ability to develop and change, and remain open and accepting.

As part of the Yering exhibition, Chris has also been asked to exhibit another piece called Asterix in an exhibition put on Arnold Bloch Leibler Lawyers and Advisors, but I will indulge more about that one a little later.
