Tesselaar Sculpture Prize 2013
This week Chris and I were lucky enough to each have a sculpture accepted to the Sixth Annual Tesselaar Sculpture Prize. This very beautiful and picturesque exhibition is organized and curated by Mark Cowie on behalf of The Tesselaar Tulip Farm and runs from September through October during the Tesselaar Tulip Festival.
This will not be the first time Chris and I have been lucky enough to be involved in the exhibition set in amongst the sea of blooming tulips. In fact, in 2008 Chris was awarded a High Commendation at the exhibition for his sculpture “Eggular” judged by renowned sculptor Ernst Fries. Mr Fries said, “To be fully appreciated Eggular by Chris Vassallo has to be looked at from all sides. The interaction of the different surfaces produces very interesting vistas and indicates the intention of the artist very clearly”.
Mark Cowie, curator, fellow sculptor and head of Art Exhibition Services runs a tight and friendly ship meeting artists on site at Tesselaar Tulip Farm to assist with installation and to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
This year Chris will display his sculpture “Social Collider Theory” and I will be displaying the award winning “Clasp”. But as we all know, the true star of the show appearing this year, as in every year will be the perfect blanket of blooming tulips wrapping the hills of the Tesselaar Farm.
