The Scar Tree sculpture and faceted Shard planters

The Scar Tree Sculpture was designed and developed in consultation with the Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council for Scentre Group and it stands proud at the entrance of Casey Central Shopping Centre.  Inside, the Lump Shard Planters decorate the Centre with sculptural and functional planters.

In our highly developed and very busy urban landscape, scar trees are significant and living evidence of the occupation and daily customs of the local indigenous people, in this case the sculpture is representative of the scar trees that would have given wood and barks to the Wurundjeri tribe in the area known as the city of Casey.
Scar trees display evidence of scarring as a result of people removing sections of bark for 3 common uses; Canoes, Shields and Coolamons.

The scar tree sculpture is a representation of these delicate and important markers in our local landscape. Important markers that for thousands of years provided materials,
sustenance, community and heritage.
