About Timothea Jewell & Chris Vassallo

Timothea Jewell and Chris Vassallo are Australian artists recognised for their contemporary sculpture and large-scale public art. As the founders and lead artists at Lump Sculpture Studio, they have shaped the practice since 2000, creating innovative, site-specific works that enhance public spaces and encourage community connection. Their artworks appear across Australia and overseas, reflecting their ongoing commitment to strong artistic vision, thoughtful craftsmanship, and collaborative practice.

History and Vision

Both coming from creative backgrounds and with more than two decades of artistic practice, Timothea and Chris have grown their work from a small creative workshop into one of Australia’s most respected public art practices. Through their leadership at Lump Sculpture Studio, they create artworks that connect people with place, bringing together artistic expression and technical skill. Their approach is grounded in collaboration, high-quality craftsmanship, and a commitment to enriching public spaces through thoughtful, enduring art.

Fabrication Expertise

Timothea and Chris specialise in metalwork using durable materials like Corten steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, bronze, aluminium and structural steel. Through their workshop in Fairfield, Victoria, equipped with advanced fabrication tools, they create custom artworks and sculptures with refined, high-quality finishes.

Supporting Tim and Chris is a skilled team of makers, fabricators and technical specialists who help bring each project from concept to life. Our team includes welders, boilermakers, sheet metal fabricators, trade assistants and sheet metal draftspersons, with specialist engineering support when needed. It’s a hands-on, collaborative team, bringing together different skills, experience and plenty of practical problem-solving to turn ambitious ideas into resolved, well-made, enduring work.
